The fusee drop dial wall clock shown above was one of a number of items rescued from a house fire. A large proportion of the mahogany veneers around the dial area were too badly burnt to reuse so the brass inlay from each of the eight sections around the dial was recut into new pieces of period mahogany veneer and then glued into place.
The glue underneath the rest of the veneers had got so hot in the fire that it had crystalised and therefore all the veneer had to be painstakingly removed and then relayed.
Next the whole case was cleaned back and French polished, finished with a coat of wax before being reunited with a very happy client.
