Antique 18th Century Burr Elm Chest Furniture Restoration Project

Restoration of a 18th century burr elm chest.

As you can see from the photo of this 18th century burr elm chest, there has been a certain amount of damage to the veneers and mouldings that has had to be cut out and replaced.

The chest has also lost its bun feet and these will have to be turned and then aged and distressed to blend in with the rest of the piece. In the past this chest has had swan neck handles, probably when the original drop handles broke and went missing.

Any holes and marks left by the swan neck handles will be coloured out and lost.

Here is the finished article. Every care has been taken to maintain the colour and patina ensuring the integrity of the piece has not been lost in the restoration process. It is now ready to be delivered to an extremely happy client.
